Inclusive Pathways for Engineering Careers

Indi-main-student-group

Dalhousie Engineering’s Inclusive Pathways to Engineering Careers Program (Pathways Program) is a transformative initiative designed to create new learning opportunities for all equity-deserving groups.

Under this umbrella we introduced the Indigenous stream of the Pathways program which launched in September of 2024. In February of 2025, we will launch the second stream of our Pathways Program—focused on empowering African Nova Scotian and Black youth with opportunities in engineering.

As a leader in engineering education in Atlantic Canada, ÐӰɵ¼º½ recognizes the importance of fostering diversity and inclusion in the field of engineering.

African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program

This program aims to foster a more diverse engineering workforce that reflects and innovates for the communities it serves. We will be welcoming the first cohort of African Nova Scotian and Black students in September 2025.

Elisabet Astatkie, a fifth-year student who is studying Industrial Engineering captured the purpose and essence of launching this program - “Throughout my engineering degree at Dalhousie, I have often been placed in rooms with few people that look like me. Making conscious efforts to increase the number of Black students enrolled in the program will help to increase the proportion of Black engineering professionals and diversify the workforce. I’m grateful for the Faculty of Engineering and their conscious efforts to adopt this pathways program.â€
