Dalhousie Engineering is proud to offer the African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program, a dedicated initiative supporting African Nova Scotian/Black youth on their journey toward careers in engineering.

We are committed to fostering a community that celebrates African Nova Scotian/Black knowledge, culture, and innovation, and we value the unique perspectives and talents African Nova Scotian/Black students bring to the engineering profession.

Program Features

The African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program is designed to help African Nova Scotian/Black Canadian students pursue a degree in engineering. The Program offers flexible entry routes for students including our Bridging Program.

Bridging ProgramÌý

The African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program includes a bridging year for
students who are interested in pursuing engineering but may not
meet all of the requirements of admissions. The program is tailored
to strengthen your skills and prepare you for success in engineering.
Students in the Bridging Program can upgrade courses and at the
same time earn credits towards their engineering degree.

Courses include:

  • Math • Chemistry • Physics
  • Career Counselling
Hands-On Learning Ìý

At Dalhousie Engineering we offer some of the top hands-on learning opportunities in Canada, with a strong focus on experiential learning. Through the African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program, you’ll engage in co-op placements and community-based projects, applying your skills in real-world settings. While exploring Engineering concepts, students are encouraged to bring their cultural heritage to their learning, You’ll blend traditional knowledge with modern practices, while accessing state-of-the-art labs and technologies.Ìý


Advising and MentorshipÌý

Students in African Nova Scotian/Black Pathways Program, will have the opportunity to connect with mentors who understand the unique challenges of being an African Nova Scotian/Black Canadian student in engineering. Our dedicated support services are tailored to meet your specific needs, ensuring you have the guidance necessary for your academic journey.ÌýÌý

Program EligibilityÌý


To be eligible for the Pathways Program, students must:Ìý

  • African Nova Scotian from the historic communities or African/Black heritage
  • Completion of a high school diploma

We are in partnerships with various organisations from the community who are all eager to support the advancement of African Nova Scotian/Black students in Engineering.
